This is a tough article to write because there are many reasons why people try and fail affiliate marketing. Bring it down to 6 reasons why people try and fail affiliate marketing is like putting a 20 watt light bulb into stadium lighting. Will they glow? Of course, but will the lights do the job of lighting up the stadium?
Like the example of the light bulb, some affiliate marketers will only give a little effort while others will shine bright.
In my attempt, I examined many reasons why people fail and many reasons why they succeed.
What I found was actually 10 reasons why people fail, however 4 of them were of no significance. The 6 reasons are the most important and cause the most trouble. Study these 6, learn how to avoid the 6 reasons and then concentrate on the reasons affiliates succeed.
There are many people, with little knowledge about the industry who start out in affiliate marketing with the ambitions of creating an income of $100,000 in their first year and be able to quit their job after 12 months. While it’s technically possible for this to happen, it’s not typical.
Part of the problem are the so called “Gru’s” who advertise “How to make $100,000 using my simple formula.” Or you may have come across something like, “I made $100,000 in my first you and will show you how.”
There are hundreds more all of which will try and separate you from you money! Are they of value? NO! There is no simple formula or that type of income with out doing the work.
Affiliate marketing is WORK. It is strategic. It is time and dedication.
Chances are, if you’ve only just heard about affiliate marketing, or you have dabbled in it, you don’t have all or even any of the necessary skills just yet. In this case, you will need to develop the skills for the long haul. Success in affiliate marketing is going to take some time, but you will get there – as long as you don’t give up along the way!
With that out of the way, what are the 6 reason people fail?
1. Lack of patience is the number one reason new affiliates fail in their endeavors. Almost everyone wants instant gratification. By setting up your site and expecting people to come to you in the hundreds simply won’t happen. Instead, set up your site and build on it each day. Just an hour each day may be all you can afford to give to begin with. Time and effort will come to those who wait and give it a chance to become recognized.
2. Lack of quality content is another stumbling block for many new affiliates. Good quality comes with experience. Practice…Practice…Practice your writing to become good at creating quality content with value to your audience. Your content needs to be both highly relevant and of excellent quality. Want to promote healthcare products, but know nothing about healthcare products? You can hire a writer or become an expert or research healthcare products or you could choose a different niche! Something your familiar with. There is no in-between.
3. Trying to cut corners with untested marketing methods is a huge mistake. By cutting corners, we’re talking specifically about “black hat SEO.” Get banned by Google, and you’ll be spending your time building a new site. Don’t learn from your mistakes, learn the correct way. Black hat SEO, Google will hunt you down, and they will punish you!
4. Not promoting the right products is a common issue with newbie affiliates. Simple question…“Would you purchase the product you are promoting through a website?” Think about it. You can advertise a Farm Tractor on your website until the cows (Sorry abut the pun) come home, but will anyone seriously purchase a farm tractor without visiting a retailer? I don’t think so. Market products people will actually buy from a website without seeing them in the flesh! You want products that’s not only capable of purchasing from your site but products the customer will came back for more or other available products. This creates residual income.
5. Many affiliates struggle to make enough money from the sales they make to allow them to reinvest that money into more marketing. Once you do find a product that people can and will buy online, make sure it offers enough commission per sale to make it worth your while. There’s little sense in promoting light bulbs for 1% profit per sale. You want to make enough money that you can reinvest into more marketing or more advanced marketing.
6. Too much too soon. Stick to one website to begin with. Don’t get distracted by shiny new niches. This will only dilute your efforts. It’s absolutely not a waste of time to spend hours on end researching the very best niche for you to enter into. The last thing you want to do is invest money in creating your own site only to send visitors to an advertiser’s site that barely converts a single sale. Question everything before you spend a single penny on building your new site.
Now that we have learned why affiliates fail, let’s take a look at reasons why affiliates succeed.
Successful affiliates are:
I’m often asked, what is affiliate marketing all about?
Here are a couple articles that will help answer the question about affiliate marketing:
WOW…how much do you want to make? Is your goal to make $100 per month or $1,000 per month or…. Only you can answer the question.
If your real questions is “How to make money with affiliate marketer?” or “How to get into affiliate marketing?” that is easy. There is one company that will teach you all you ever want to know about affiliate marketing and how to be successful. That company is Wealthy Affiliates
Let’s answer your question another way…“How long’s a piece of string?” Your income as a beginner or even have some knowledge will depend on several factors:
Affiliate Networks and commissions vary widely. Here is where you research comes in.
As new affiliates, it could take over a year to make your first sale, but with the correct training and persistence, you could start earning in as little as 120 days.
Before I close this article, several topics needs to be addressed.
Many beginners are unaware of the potential of the affiliate marketing business model for their own businesses. With a 7-Day no up front money, a new affiliate can test the market to see if affiliate marketing is a correct choice.
I already mentioned Wealthy Affiliate as the program you need to be successful. Wealthy Affiliate offers a unique 7-Day Starter Package for anyone interested in affiliate marketing as a great home based business.
Credit card is not required until your are convinced that this is the correct program for you. As you can imagine, this is great for any start-up business with little funding for marketing their new business.
The advantage for the beginner is to learn how to become successful with no up front money. Advantage to promote your niche. Learn how to use the various marketing platforms. Advantage of having professional coaching.
The advantages of the affiliate marketing business model for the affiliate are quite obvious to anyone. Having the opportunity to effectively “offer a product”without having any of the costs or responsibilities of manufacturing, buying or storing it.
If approached correctly, affiliate marketing can eventually turn into a full-time passive income.
Where many beginners stumble, is in believing that success in affiliate marketing is quick and easy. It’s not. It takes many hours of learning, commitment and a willingness to adapt to bring the best out of every changing situation.
Aside from the obvious advantages of running your own business, being able to work online from anywhere at any time, and having the freedom to choose just how hard you work, there are a few other perks. Affiliates with a strong social following (also known as influencers) can expect to receive freebies from advertisers looking to boost their brand awareness.
If an affiliate’s website is generic, such as a health and beauty blog, the possibilities are endless: from beauty creams to entire pampering sets, if you can give a company enough exposure, they will be begging you to trial their products for free!
Before you get too excited Do Your Research. There are great programs available, some just okay programs and there are the not so great programs. The only way you can determine the correct program for you is to do your Due-Dilligence. That will be time well invested.
Here is an important point, affiliate marketing for beginners can be hard. It is, after all, a business. It is not a get rich quick scheme, and no honest affiliate company will ever tell you it is. It requires patience, perseverance, time, commitment and heaps of learning. Sometimes it can take many months to achieve the results you really want to see.
To cut down the learning curve and avoid the mistakes most new affiliates make, choose a program in which the company offer top notch training. A community of liked marketers who can offer help and suggestions and a professional staff to answer your questions. That is a great program.
Affiliate marketing isn’t something you can just walk straight into from your day job. All affiliates we know started off doing it as a sideline, and unless you have huge reserves of money to live on, it’s likely you’ll need to do the same.
People do and will fail in affiliate marketing. It happens today and it will happen for tomorrow. It’s not that affiliate marketing is not a good media for making money, it’s because the PEOPLE Failed…NOT the program.
I showed 6 reason why people try and failed affiliate marketing. I also showed reasons of how affiliates succeeded. I made references to two articles on affiliate marketing
You found out that it take time and commitment to make this a successful business. It’s not a get rich program but with careful thought and dedication, affiliate marketing is a great business model for earning an income part-time or full-time.
I made reference to a company that fulfills the needs of affiliate marketers. That company again is Wealthy Affiliates. I also indicated “not take my word for the recommendation”, but to try it out for yourself for 7-Days. In those 7-Day you will know if this is the correct program for you. And you can find it out with No Money for 7-Days.
There are many advantages for becoming an affiliate marketer. They are: Good income possibilities, work from home or anywhere, work on your time schedule, and affiliate marketing is really simple to start.
So once again, I’m going to recommend Wealthy Affiliates program for a lot of reasons. But my recommendations will mean nothing if you don’t at lease try, if only for 7-Days.
